World-record quantity of superinsulating, bio-based material

We are happy and proud to share an important milestone today: The first 40l of lignin bioaerogel granules were produced on the bioaerogel pilot plant at the Hamburg University of Technology. The production formed part of the currently running commissioning project.

This may be a world record: To our knowledge, it is the biggest quantity of bio-based superinsulating material that has ever been produced. So far, everything we have seen or done has only happened at lab scale - including our own work.

We are extremely proud of Alberto and Raman who made this step possible. And we are very thankful to Hamburg University of Technology and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Irina Smirnova for hosting us.

The pilot plant will have a daily capacity of up to 200l of bioaerogel granules. With this increase of scale, we achieve two things:

  1. We will now transition towards larger-scale prototypes and showcases with our partners e.g. in the Construction or Logistics spaces.

  2. We are also validating our step-change process technology for more energy-efficient and cost-saving aerogel production which is the foundation for our first production plant.
